Foods to try in Madrid

Some of the foods we got to try in our Madrid trip and the locations are as follows, hope you may find it useful 🙂

1.Viena Capellanes- Great place for coffee and cakes. You will find it hard to control yourself not to go back to get more of those pretty cakes! Address: Calle del Marqués de Urquijo, 17, 28008 Madrid, Spain. Website: http://www.vienacapellanes.com/inicio.php?terminal=netscape

3. Casa Toni- Amazing food and service! If you want to try an authentic tapas bar, I would highly recommend this place. This may seem a little crowded when you step in, but they have plenty of room upstairs. This seems like a small family business and they have plenty of photos on the wall of the restaurant and Madrid in olden days and its amusing to look through. The chef (might be the owner) was so friendly and pleasant, even if he doesn’t speak English well, he made sure we had everything we wanted. Such a warm and homely atmosphere. I haven’t got pictures of everything, but between us we had tried meat platter, potato bravas, fried chillies, scrambled egg with mushroom and shrimp as well as some traditional wine. Address: Calle de la Cruz, 14, 28012 Madrid, Spain. 4. Casa Remigio (near El Retiro Park) We have had the famous churros and hot chocolate from here before we head to El Retiro park. I don’t know whether we should have gone to more local cafe for this traditional favourite of madrid but this one was very filling! plus lovely view of the park!

5. Mercado San Miguel – Anyone visiting Madrid, this is a must see place. This is an exhibition of top quality food from around the world at affordable prices. I regret I haven’t got many photos to upload as I was thoroughly enjoying my time here walking around trying from as many food stalls as we could. What I liked most about this place is, you can spend the same amount of money you spend in one restaurant and try a dozen of tapas of meat, fish as well as fruits, cakes, sweets etc etc from here. We went there twice, and we had tried spanish omlette, sushi, gazpacho, fresh fruit juices, frozen yogurt, baklavas, lots of cakes, paella, sangria, pickled herring, cod, octopus and salmon. Bear in mind that this place can get very crowded at peak times and there aren’t many seats so be prepared to grab and go from one food stall to the next. If you are a seafood fan, then you would love this stall: LA CASA DEL BACALAO. See the link: http://www.mercadodesanmiguel.es/en/puestos/la-casa-del-bacalao-2/. Their many varieties of seafood served on top of bread is just awesome!
