The Statue of Black Madonna belongs to this beautiful Einsiedeln Abbey which is a Benedictine monastery situated in the town of Einsiedeln. So far, this is the third Benedictine abbey I have visited, first one is in the breathtaking mountains in Barcelona (Montserrat), second one in the beautiful coast of Isle of Wight (Quarr Abbey). Photography is not allowed hence I could not capture an image of the Virgin Mary in black marble. But I believe it resembles very much like the Black virgin of Montserrat, Barcelona (click the link to see the photo) except in Einsiedeln, the statue is given magnificent embroidered clothes, crowns and adorned with jewels. The colour of the clothes of Our Lady change depending on the celebrations. This miraculous statue was created by an unknown artist in the 15th century. The statue has become black over the years from dust and the soot of the candles, oil lamps and incense.
