Waggoners Wells

Waggoners/Wakeners Wells consists of three man-made ponds believed to be created in the 17th century for industrial purposes (archaeological evidence for ironmaking has been found in surrounding areas) . It is now overgrown with ancient beech trees offering a peaceful sanctuary with spectacular colour shows in spring and autumn. I have visited the place in the early and late autumn of 2017 and looking forward to go back in the next spring :). Waggoners Wells is acquired by the National Trust as a memorial  to Sir Robert Hunter, one of the founders of the Trust and his memorial stone can be found on the side of the lake.

Highlights of the place

• It is perfect for photoshoots
• Good place for dog walking, for an evening stroll etc but watch kids at all times since the lakes are deep and water is very cold. I would suggest to wear wellington as it is very muddy.
• Dont forget to make a wish at the Wishing Well ,mine has come true!!!
• fishing is allowed
• bird watching-kingfisher, mallard and grey wagtail may be seen.
